1950's Set of 4 Folding Chairs by Egon Eierman

A set of 4 plywood chairs by Egon Eiermann- Collection SE-18
designed 1952. Frame comprising four tapering legs with one cross piece each for the rear and front pairs of legs, in solid wood.  Seat and backrest of three-dimensional shaped oak plywood with visible and surface-flush seat attachment.
Designed for high functionality, low space requirements during storage, portability and durability.
Exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1953 and at the World Exhibition Brussels in 1958.

Eiermann’s demands of his folding chair were high. He was all the happier with the result in late 1952: „That can’t be done any better!“ Here too Eiermann was probably right, in 1953 he was awarded the „Good Design Award“ of the Museum of Modern Art of New York. A year later he received an award at the Milan Triennial.
