Original handwoven tapestry "Le Reveille Matin" designed by Marc Saint Saens (1903-1973), Aubusson and woven by Rene Baudonnet. Saint Saens was known as an influential Expressionist painter as well as a major artist in the Rebirth of tapestry in France. He along with Jean Lurcat and Jean Picart Le Doux founded the Association of Tapestry Carton-Painters in 1947 which was the beginning of the revival of 20th century tapestries. They specialized in the Goblin technique, well-known from the north European 'Mille Fleurs' tapestries of the 17th century. This technique enables the artist to make refined multi-color weaves with a strong optical effect.
