The abstract life painting of a seated figure by John Kaine 1960's was executed in acrylic paint on board framed with pine wood. As we gaze upon what seems to a sited figure at a table or desk the painting is divided into blocks of colour above the torso and below the desk. The legs and background are rendered in muted browns, ink blacks and the head, body in sky blue and behind the head salmon pink. Above the head is a block of midnight blue. It is hard to conclude the sex of the sitter or whether the sitter is in slumber or study but these three planes present different shape, colour even texture to the viewer. The painter John Kaine studied fine art in the late 1950's at the Royal College of Art and won the Rome and Abbey Scholarship. Later he taught at Maidstone school of Art.
