Standing man is an abstract sculpture in bronze titled 'Compass' with a green patina by the Dutch sculptor Lies Gronheid, 1982. His profile is divided into in four directions like a compass with his legs position apart and arms crossed. We use a compass for navigation and orientation that shows direction towards a destination. The compass rose is the head of the standing figure quartered into the four points north, south, east, and west on the compass face as abbreviated initials. Standing man is looking to the East but he has also as three other directions to choose from! It is unclear which path he will favor his final destination as his feet suggests otherwise. The sculpture is made in limited edition of five, cast bronze with lost wax method. Two sculptures are available, one with brown patina shown in the last two images.
