Modernist Wrought Iron and Leather French Sling Stool

Hand forged stool was probably produced in the 1960's, where its construction was fabricated by cleverly using right angled iron bar for strength and minimal design. The hide leather loops over the ‘U’ shaped arms of the seat to form a sling and is then connected by rivets. It is this simplicity of design that is enhanced through the high craftsmanship of its fabrication. ‘Less is more’, is the quote by the Bauhaus architect Mies Van De Rohe who designed the famous Barcelona chair in 1929 in all it minimal glory. The birth of the sling stool comes out of this early 20th century modernist history.
