The enameled 1960's Italian dish with its irregular perforated holes around edge has an abstract design of gold, blue and red at its core. The technique of vitreous enamel by fusing powdered glass fired, usually between 750 and 850 °C. The powder becomes liquid, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. The art of the design lies in the Abstract Expressionism of the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. Painters like Jackson Pollack expressed the free, the spontaneous and the personal in his technique and the blue enamel bowl explores this art form in all its dynamism.
